Will She or Won't She??

TRANSFORMATIONAL THOUGHTS:

Hello Reader,

Aging athletes.

Specifically, I want to bring up a story that has made headlines in the news for the past year, several months, and finally, tonight:

"Did Diana Taurasi play her final game tonight, and will she announce her retirement?"

At 42, she is/was the oldest active player in the WNBA. She has been the only player in the league to hit more than 10K points, just notched her 6th Olympic medal, and spent her entire career with the Phoenix Mercury.

OF COURSE I was wanting to find out what she has been doing in order to maintain her body - particularly over the past several seasons, as she has been riddled with injuries.

As I was researching her methods and techniques, one of my favorite lines from a journalist was - "the player who used to close down bars and clubs early in her pro career is now closing weight rooms."

I'll spare you all of the details, but just know that the actual amount of time she spends on the court and with the basketball is WAY less than the time she works on maintaining her body.

It's similar for masters runners and managing mileage/wear and tear on the body.

I'm not saying that you need to follow everything Diana Taurasi has done - she's a well paid professional athlete.. However, pay attention to her desire and her actions to (literally) stay in the game.

I always tell runners that if they have the desire to keep running, I will do everything I can to help them "stay in the game". It takes work and may not be the same as it was twenty years ago, but it's always worth a try.

You don't have to be a professional athlete, but if you are asking for longevity from your body, make sure that you take care of it like a professional.

Will she retire, or won't she? I don't know, but I sure do appreciate what she has done for the sport, her work ethic, and breaking the glass ceiling for women's sports.

"Success leaves clues." - Jim Rohn

Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.

Coach Nicole

"WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CREATINE, NICOLE?"

I have been asked this question twice in the past two days from different clients.

What I did in both instances was to let the clients know that there is promising research that has been done on this topic. Not just for strength, but there has been some evidence connecting creatine with cognition as well.

It is NOT for everyone. It is NOT a short cut for strength. Understanding your body is imperative, and you should absolutely never start with a supplement until you have vetted it for yourself and through your health care providers.

That being said, I wanted to share the leading researchers on this subject - Dr. Darren Candow is known to be an expert when it comes to studies, safety, and efficacy of creatine. Look up some of his recent discussions on this topic.

JUMPSTARTRUNNING HAS A ROOST:

When people ask me "Do you see clients in person or virtually?" Now, my answer is YES.

Specifically, I'm now able to do both. Before I moved out to Boulder, I made a trip to the area to check things out. I stopped into a local running store (right across the street from my place) and immediately felt connected. A sweet employee gave me a tour of the building, and pointed out the fact that they have treatment rooms available "You should bring your business here!"

I started the process that day, and there were several obstacles to overcome. Long story short - I'm FINALLY able to say that I have secured space at the Runners Roost in Boulder: https://runnersroost.com/runners-roost-boulder/

Lots of exciting things to come, and I'll show you more next week. If you have a vision/dream, keep fighting for it!

JumpSTARTRUNNING THE LONG RUN Keep Moving Forward & Transform Through Life TRANSFORMATIONAL THOUGHTS: Hello Reader, We just made it through the flurry of Thanksgiving, followed by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday. And just like that, we have 19 days until Christmas. There is something special about the month of December. Well, that's my opinion, but I'm choosing to see it that way.
