"Run For Your Life" is the story about Fred Lebow - one man who decided to create a running event and called it "The New York City Marathon" in 1970.
At that time, it consisted of four hilly loops around Central Park. It cost $1 to run, 55 out of 127 registered athletes finished, and the awards were wristwatches and recycled trophies. One woman started the race, but she dropped out after fifteen miles.
I'm not going to give you ALL of the details - you have to watch the show. It got a little dry when they talked about the family history of Fred Lebow (unless you are related to him) but there were so many other interesting things to learn and so much great running footage from the seventies!!
Are these not the "Bunnies" you were thinking??
What do Playboy Bunnies have to do with this?? On June 3, 1972, a six-mile "Mini Marathon" was created JUST for women in NYC. Seventy two women participated, and the Playboy Bunnies were hired to generate publicity. Three weeks after that race, Title IX was signed into law.
There are now twenty three days until the NYC Marathon. I used to watch this race the first Saturday in November, when it was televised on NBC. I was mesmerized by all of the people. In just a few weeks, I have the honor of being one of those people.
"The marathon is a charismatic event. It has everything. It has drama. It has competition. Every jogger can't dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon." - Fred Lebow
Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.

UESCA COACHING CONFERENCE:
Last week I said that I would be sharing weekly "take-aways" from this conference I attended two weeks ago. This week: "Ultramarathons are not long marathons."
KOOP!
This is "Koop"- Coach Jason Koop - who is VERY well known in the Ultrarunning industry and has over 20 years of experience coaching.
He was addressing the fact that many marathon runners that transition to ultrarunning (anything greater than marathon distance) often train the same way they train for a marathon, but that is often as mistake, as they are VERY different. Here's Koop's site: https://www.jasonkoop.com/
TREADMILL TUESDAY
The goal for this week was to knock out 16 miles. Did it happen???
Look who I "sat" next to on our 261 Fearless Charity Zoom call!!
Kathrine Switzer joined our team call tonight!!
I asked Kathrine to share a high/low from her races in NYC. She said they both came in the 1974 race that she won: "I won the race, which was good, but I was actually disappointed because I wanted to finish under three hours, and I came in at 3:07." - Spoken like a true runner!
Charity fundraising is similar to marathon training -it gets the toughest and most stressful with just a few weeks to go. Knowing we will eventually accomplish our fundraising goal, it is always a "race to the finish!"
Every time I receive a notification regarding a donation, my spirits are lifted and I realize how lucky I am for this opportunity. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

JumpSTARTRUNNING THE LONG RUN Keep Moving Forward & Transform Through Life TRANSFORMATIONAL THOUGHTS: Hello Reader, We just made it through the flurry of Thanksgiving, followed by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday.
