How Often Do YOU "Think Again"???

TRANSFORMATIONAL THOUGHTS:

Hello Reader,

Tonight, I attended my first book club in CO. I was familiar with the author, but hadn't read this particular book. I've written/raved about the author's current book, "Hidden Potential" and thought that attending the event would force me to crack open this book that had been on my shelf.

The other reason I wanted to attend, was the particular group that was hosting the event - "the NoCo Mustachians" - a unique group that discusses investing, entrepreneurship, DIY, sustainability, education, community-building (more on this group another time).

Notice that RUNNING was not mentioned above, but the book showed me similarities between running, business, serving my clients, and "thinking again".

According to fourminutebooks.com:
"Think Again teaches us the power of being humble about what we don't know, how to recognize blind spots in our thinking, and to more effectively enlist people for our cause, thus bolstering our intelligence, persuasiveness, and self-awareness."

One of my favorite takeaways from the book? The concept of CONFIDENT HUMILITY - having faith in our abilities, but appreciating that we may not have the right solution. Enough doubt to re-examine old knowledge, and enough confidence to pursue new insights.

This (blurry) photo was from the very first marathon I ran in October of 2000. I didn't know much at all about training, and I certainly didn't know that wearing a hydration belt around my waist was not only going to chafe me, but it also slid up and down the ENTIRE race. It was definitely not the right solution for me, and I had to "think again" for an alternate hydration method prior to the next race.

The group was very welcoming, and they knew this was my first time with them. Besides me letting them know I had much to learn about their "index fund" jokes, they were curious what I learned from the book that I could apply to my business.

I told them that several years ago, I went through a fellowship program www.grayinstitute.com that taught me to "think again" when it comes to what I learned in physical therapy school. Specifically, my PT classmates and I were taught to work with patients on a table, but the Gray Institute told us to "think again" about the fact that most of us don't spend the majority of our time on a table vs. upright movement.

One of the other concepts from the book I really enjoyed was the topic of motivational interviewing, and really LISTENING to clients vs. PREACHING.

I highly recommend this book as it will not only help you "think again" to improve yourself, but interpersonal communications and your communities.

"If knowledge is power, knowing what we don't know is wisdom. We learn more from people who challenge our thought process than those who affirm our conclusions" - Adam Grant

Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.

NOTICING AND FINDING JOY OUTSIDE

I was recently reading an article about the benefits of walking outside and really focusing on the natural beauty of nature.

Sometimes when I go for a walk I am talking on the phone or listening to a podcast/audio book, so I don't typically "pay attention" or "notice" what I am seeing - other than traffic and my watch!

This morning, I decided to really pay attention to the fall colors and one of the first things I noticed was how beautiful it was outside.

Then, I noticed that I was smiling at people when I walked past them, and they smiled back.

Then, I noticed someone really smiling, and saying, "Hi Nicole!" It was one of the employees from the running store, riding her bike past me on her way to work.

I kept noticing and "stacking" all of these good things and feelings around me, and before I knew it, look what I found:

Not everyday is filled with joy, but if we start with a positive thought, find another to add, it tends to multiply. Give it a try - especially the next time you are out for a run, or just get your self out in nature - I want to hear all about you finding joy!

TREADMILL TUESDAY

"The Hay Is In The Barn" - whoo! That was a doozy...find out why I had to think about the fact that most people don't get to 1 mile away from the finish line and say "that's good enough."
