'Twas the Night Before The Chicago Marathon

In The Long Run

Thoughts and BELIEFS:

(BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?)

Hello Reader,

Tomorrow morning is the Chicago Marathon.

More than 55,000 runners will toe the line for the race, and there is one notable brand planning to attend: McDonald's.

It turns out they are doing something called "stuntvertising", and using the marathon as a test.

They came up with something called "pickle boost", to hand out to runners during the race. "A staple for athletes dealing with cramps mid-workout."

I'll be curious to see how many people utilize this, and so will McDonald's. They said future offerings of this product will depend on feedback from this race.

We'll see if McDonald's "I'm lovin' it" slogan applies to Pickle Boost.

Most runners know not to try anything new not only before a race, but especially during. However, there will always be some runners feeling so bad, that they are desperate for a way to feel better.

Good luck runners, may tomorrow be fast, fun, and free of your digestive system getting into a pickle!

"My Kind of Town" or "Sirius"?:

Many runners know that "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra blasts as you start 26.2 miles on Staten Island for the NYC marathon.

Did you know that Frank also sings about Chicago?

The song is lovely, but not necessarily something you want to listen to as you get ready to run a marathon!

Luckily, race organizers have been using the song "Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project.

Not sure what that is??

If you were a fan of NBA basketball in the 90's, (especially as a Detroit Pistons fan) this song was NOT what you wanted to hear if you were going up against the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs:

This song is way more appropriate for the start line of the Chicago Marathon, but it still takes me back to the "Bad Boys" vs. Michael Jordan era of basketball!

I've got goosebumps, how about you??

Let's Work Together:
Even if you aren't running Chicago, NYC, or even running at all, I'd love to help you create a plan for your body to move better.

Right now is a great time to get those little "niggles" cleared up before it gets too deep into the holiday season.

Got an unwanted pain that is leftover from summer or something isn't "quite right"?

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, On September 25th, my new town of Louisville, CO celebrated "Dolly Day": The significance was the date (9/25) to match one of her most famous songs, and honor her life, music, and legacy. New Orleans hosted a parade, Nashville had pink lights throughout the city and all the bars played "Nine to Five" at 5pm. After walking around town and seeing the various tributes, I decided to go for a...

Hello Reader, Even though it is not "officially" fall until September 22, there are several indications it has arrived: Pumpkin spice EVERYTHING Costco is decked out for Christmas Sandals swapped for knee-high boots Runners have more smile and less sweat One of MY favorite indications for fall is the increase in weekend text messages I receive from runners: It's a delicate time for athletes who are deep...

Feel the burn, and keep punching!

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, "Keep punching." That's how Sylvester Stallone signs off his social media. When asked why, he said: "Life is a fight, but we must never surrender. Never giving up is the ultimate victory. Keep punching." Same could be said for a marathon. For those deep in their fall marathon training; "Keep punching." Throughout my twenty six years of marathon training, I've watched the complete Rocky and...
