This Was Supposed to Be About the Olympics

In The Long Run

Thoughts and BELIEFS:

(BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?)

Hello Reader,

I had written this week’s newsletter about the Olympics.
But two other stories bumped it to another time.

Since it's the weekend, I'm asking you to set aside 24 minutes and watch this video. You might need some Kleenex, but it's well worth it.

It’s about running, but it’s not about running.
It’s about love, resilience, and perspective.

It made me forget the noise — and remember what truly matters❤️

The other moment this week was the passing of running legend **Jeff Galloway.**

He completed 236 marathons and was actively training — walk-run, of course — for the 2026 Honolulu Marathon.
It would have made him the first runner to complete a marathon in eight consecutive decades.

But the most powerful line came from his family: “He is survived by every person who ever crossed a finish line and thought, ‘I didn’t think I could do this.’”

He was the Official Training Consultant for runDisney, and today started what will be an emotional first race weekend without him.

Legacy. Legend. Impact. Beloved. ❤️

In a season that can feel loud, these stories remind us:
Humanity gets no medal — but it always wins.

Walking (or running) beside you — one step at a time.

Coach Nikki

LINDSEY VONN - OUCH!

The PT in me couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share photos from Lindsey Vonn’s Instagram.

Look closely at the bottom right photo.

What you can’t see is the emergency procedure that saved her leg — or the surgeon who performed it.

Her orthopaedic surgeon, Tom Hackett of The Steadman Clinic, came to the Olympics when he learned of her torn ACL.

When she developed acute compartment syndrome, he performed a fasciotomy — cutting the fascia around the muscle compartments to relieve pressure, restore blood flow, and prevent tissue death.

His quick action ultimately prevented amputation.

And as if that weren’t enough?

She also mentioned, almost casually:
“I broke my right ankle too.”

Perspective.

These aren’t scare tactics. They’re reminders.

If you woke up today able to move your body — even imperfectly — that is not something to take lightly.

Move because you can.

Poolside Thoughts:

The wifi in this video was about as good as my coffee 👎 - stick with it, and you'll get the message.

Remember what is important - presence and people.

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, History was recently made by a runner who crushed an old course record by two and a half hours. This wasn't for a marathon. It was the distance of almost TEN CONSECUTIVE MARATHONS. This athlete is a SHE. Rachel Entrekin crushed the Cocodona 250, the first time a woman has ever won this race. Contrary to the myth and objection from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) in the early '60s, her...

1:59:30 and a Trace of Estrogen

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, Sabastian Sawe ran a 1:59:30 to break the world record at the 2026 London Marathon Sunday morning. A feat that has been contemplated and chased for years. He completed three marathons before this one, coming in first for each around 2:02. After every race, he returned to his training — knowing he was capable of more. His coach knew it too. He noted a phrase from the book "The Way of...
