Jumpstartrunning Presents:

In The Long Run

IMPACTful THOUGHTS:

(IMPACT is my chosen word for 2025 - what was yours?)

Hello Reader,

It's Christmas Eve, and I'm visiting family at my parents beautiful log home in Pueblo, CO.

I was thinking about an email from one of my favorite entrepreneurs, Amy Porterfield:

"This is the week to unplug.

❤️ To be with your people.

💚 To laugh way too loud.

❤️ To play games that get a little out of hand.

💚 To eat alllll the food.

❤️ To enjoy slow mornings without an agenda.

This week is about being, not becoming."

Normally, I would be focused on a run while outside.

Instead, I wanted to touch base with a few friends and wish them a Merry Christmas.

The message I received from Amy Porterfield's email was about being present -for yourself, or for someone else.

This time of year can bring a flurry of emotions, and no matter if/how you celebrate, please know that I'm here to wish you rest and peace.

We will get after it again next week, but this week, I'm taking Amy's advice and sharing her parting words:

This week, we eat. 🍰

This week, we rest. 😴

This week, we unplug. 🧘🏻

Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.

Why I'm Not Running Boston This Year

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, For years, International Women’s Day (IWD) would have meant one thing for me: a long run on a spring afternoon while training for Boston. This year, I went for a long walk instead. Many of you know I won't be running the marathon this year, and I didn't want to admit the reason was my body. I have come to accept the reason as a gift, which I get to share with you. Menopause moved the...

This Was Supposed to Be About the Olympics

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, I had written this week’s newsletter about the Olympics. But two other stories bumped it to another time. Since it's the weekend, I'm asking you to set aside 24 minutes and watch this video. You might need some Kleenex, but it's well worth it. It’s about running, but it’s not about running. It’s about love, resilience, and perspective. It made me forget the noise — and remember what truly...

Who's the Boss of Your Recovery?

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, “Can I call you sometime… I need a good heart to ❤️”That was the text I got from one of my college roommates from PT school. Five days earlier, she’d had her hip replaced. That part surprised me—she’s always been incredibly active. She’s 66 now, and her hip pain had been brewing for months. What didn’t surprise me was what “the system” told her she couldn’t do—instead of telling her what...
