Mile 20 Of The Holiday Marathon!

Jumpstartrunning Presents:

In The Long Run

IMPACTful THOUGHTS:

(IMPACT is my chosen word for 2025 - what was yours?)

Hello Reader,

I see you, runner.

The “runner” comes out in all of us this time of year—running through our thoughts, finances, to-do lists, and patience.

When you’re trying to “do all the things” in preparation for the holidays, I want to remind you of the most important gift you can give yourself: grace over perfection.

If your routine feels a little off right now, you’re not doing anything wrong—it’s December.

This season is often a transition mile. I’ll be sharing a few intentional shifts in the weeks ahead—and I’d love to hear what’s coming up for you as well.

In the meantime, good luck as we hit mile 20 of the holiday marathon. May you find bargains, parking spaces, and plenty of grace.

I’ll be in touch again before Christmas—until then:

Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.

Coach Nicole

Change is on the horizon...

LONGEVITY (100 YEARS!)

Last weekend on December 13, Dick Van Dyke turned 100 years old. I'll always associate him as Bert, a chimney sweep, one-man band, and bank president in the 1964 film Mary Poppins.

Click on the link below to see him actually singing "Let's Go Fly A Kite" with his family on his actual 100th birthday!

He also said in the clip "I've often tried to think - what did I do to live this long? The only thing is, I've always exercised - I still go to the gym three days a week - I believe that's the secret!"

He wrote the above memoir in 2015, and then just a few weeks ago, came this:

Since it's the holiday season and a time for "JOY", check out this video - if you want a beautiful example of "awe", watch to the very end and the way DVD looks at Chris Martin:

Why I'm Not Running Boston This Year

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, For years, International Women’s Day (IWD) would have meant one thing for me: a long run on a spring afternoon while training for Boston. This year, I went for a long walk instead. Many of you know I won't be running the marathon this year, and I didn't want to admit the reason was my body. I have come to accept the reason as a gift, which I get to share with you. Menopause moved the...

This Was Supposed to Be About the Olympics

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, I had written this week’s newsletter about the Olympics. But two other stories bumped it to another time. Since it's the weekend, I'm asking you to set aside 24 minutes and watch this video. You might need some Kleenex, but it's well worth it. It’s about running, but it’s not about running. It’s about love, resilience, and perspective. It made me forget the noise — and remember what truly...

Who's the Boss of Your Recovery?

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, “Can I call you sometime… I need a good heart to ❤️”That was the text I got from one of my college roommates from PT school. Five days earlier, she’d had her hip replaced. That part surprised me—she’s always been incredibly active. She’s 66 now, and her hip pain had been brewing for months. What didn’t surprise me was what “the system” told her she couldn’t do—instead of telling her what...
