(BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?)
Hello Reader,
It's that time again:
I love choosing a word for the New Year because it's free, there's no pressure/deadline (well, before December 31st), and it's NOT a resolution! Jon Gordon, the author of the book says, "It's a vision or theme for the year and will help you become."
"Your word shapes your character, your character influences your actions, and your actions influence others.
I chose the word BELIEF because I'm going to be making some significant work changes this year, and when that word popped into my head a few weeks ago, it seemed appropriate.
The word also seemed fitting because I want my clients to know I believe in them too.
What about YOU?? Do you have your word?? I'd love to know what you have chosen - hit reply and let me know!
Walking beside you — one step at a time.

TIME FOR A WORKSHOP!
Midlife+ ladies - have you had your blood checked lately? If you did, were you made aware that many of the "normal" values for women are actually inaccurate??
There is SO much information swirling around - it can be really overwhelming to try and figure out not only what is accurate, but what is accurate for YOU?
Let's talk about it!! I'll be going live next Sunday, January 25th 3pm - 4pm EST.
Here's a video I made for you that gives more details:
Hit reply if you have any questions that you would like me to answer during the workshop.
Here's the photo I mentioned in the video!

Dolly Parton and Running??
Highly recommend her trilogy of books. Buyer beware - they are big and HEAVY!
This Monday, January 19th, Dolly Parton turns 80 years young.
She may not be a runner, but she certainly has had an ultramarathon of a career! I was perusing through the purple book and learned she made her debut at the Grand Old Opry at just 13 years old!
Another running metaphor is the fact that Dolly knows what it means to "run your own race/pace". Turns out Elvis wanted to record her hit "I Will Always Love You", but she stayed true to herself and refused to give up ownership. She was bummed at the time, but several years later, Whitney Houston did a cover of that song and it earned Dolly over $10 million - her highest grossing song.
She invested her earnings into a Nashville office complex in a predominantly Black neighborhood to honor Whitney.
I hope she receives over $10 million birthday wishes on Monday. What's your favorite Dolly song/memory? Hit reply and let me know!
"The Gunk In My Hips"
One of many things I love about coaching clients is getting their random text messages. Never the same thing twice - sometimes a selfie right after crossing a finish line, or a body part to show me "it hurts here."
Last week, I received this: "Hi - what's your experience with herniated disks?"
I'm happy to say that he didn't actually have a herniated disc (yet) but his back was definitely flared up. I was able to see him the following day, and despite his back being sore, his HIPS were the culprit.
He's in his mid-twenties and just had a PR marathon about a month ago, with zero back issues. However, he sits 10 hours a day for work, plus commute!
When clients are super stuck in the hips, I have them use a thick band which assists to mobilize those cement hips. Here's a video I sent him to get "unstuck"
The next day, instead of another 911 text, he sent this:
LET ME HELP YOU! Stop wasting time "guessing" about your issues, and talk to an expert that speaks running better than AI :)

In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, For years, International Women’s Day (IWD) would have meant one thing for me: a long run on a spring afternoon while training for Boston. This year, I went for a long walk instead. Many of you know I won't be running the marathon this year, and I didn't want to admit the reason was my body. I have come to accept the reason as a gift, which I get to share with you. Menopause moved the...
In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, I had written this week’s newsletter about the Olympics. But two other stories bumped it to another time. Since it's the weekend, I'm asking you to set aside 24 minutes and watch this video. You might need some Kleenex, but it's well worth it. It’s about running, but it’s not about running. It’s about love, resilience, and perspective. It made me forget the noise — and remember what truly...
In The Long Run Thoughts and BELIEFS: (BELIEF is my chosen word for 2026 - what is yours?) Hello Reader, “Can I call you sometime… I need a good heart to ❤️”That was the text I got from one of my college roommates from PT school. Five days earlier, she’d had her hip replaced. That part surprised me—she’s always been incredibly active. She’s 66 now, and her hip pain had been brewing for months. What didn’t surprise me was what “the system” told her she couldn’t do—instead of telling her what...
