IMPACTful THOUGHTS:
(IMPACT is my chosen word for 2025 - what was yours?)
Hello Reader,
Usually, I start these emails with a story about something that has been happening in my life or training. (If you didn't catch my last email, find out what happened with my summer training/attempt for Boston here)https://app.kit.com/publications/17294908/reports/overview
This week, I wanted to share one of the most inspirational stories I've seen in a long time.
I don't care if you are a runner or not, you are going to want to take twenty minutes out of your day to see this video about 89 year old Bob Hayes. (There is a reason this won a People's Choice Award!)
It's not a story about running - it's a story about LIVING.
Spoiler alert - I laughed out loud during the credits when Bob said if he gets tired while driving "I just play my harmonica" and then he did!
Bob chooses to do things "the hard way" and lives his life with intention. How often do we choose "comfortable" vs. "the hard way"?
I want to know your thoughts - hit reply and let me know how you felt after seeing this!
Keep moving forward my friends, one step at a time.
Coach Nicole
TRAINING TIP:
Getting a text like this is one of my favorite parts of my job :)
Prior to her joyful text, this client was frustrated with her attempts to train for a half marathon. She could get to six miles, but then had to stop because of knee pain.
Things got so bad, she couldn't walk down her stairs without fear her knee was going to "give out" on her.
When she came to see me, it was a month before her race. She said that if she had to drop down to the 10k she could, but was really hoping to do the half.
She completed the Chicago marathon back in 2013, and did not have any knee pain at that time - she had experience with endurance racing.
HOW DID SHE COMPLETE THIS HALF MARATHON???
For those of you not familiar with Jeff Galloway and his "walk/run" method, you will want to check out this video. (check it out if you are familiar - it's a great explanation!)
Back to my client - all credit goes to her as she worked hard leading up to the race. She did a lot of specific PT that gave her enough strength to improve and walk down her stairs without instability.
Two days before the race, I had her try walking for a minute and then jogging for four. She was able to complete two miles like that without knee pain, so why not attempt the half??
All kidding aside, it was really important we created a plan that was specific to her body and safe. Did she want to walk? No. Most runners don't.
As "seasoned" runners, please consider using the Galloway method as a tool for your training. Whether you are just starting out, coming back from injury, or if you are working on building strength and want to reduce impact/chance for injury.
I did this last weekend for the first time and here's how it went:
Less impact, less chance for injury, and a great way to keep moving forward!

I can't tell you how happy I was to see this text from my new client in Portland, OR.
THIS WAS AFTER JUST ONE SESSION TOGETHER!
While not every client experiences these immediate results, it's an example of what's possible with virtual movement coaching.
Stop wasting time "guessing" about your issues, and talk to an expert that speaks running better than AI :)
